Filomena Marona Beja, b. Lisbon, June 9, 1944, studied in high school at Lycée Français Charles Lepierre in Lisbon and later in college at the School of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She worked until 2008 in scientific and technical documentation within the domain of construction and architecture for schools.
Her first novel, Cidadãs (Citizens) came out in 1998, and since then she has published 8 other novels, including A Cova do Lagarto, which was awarded the Great Prize for Novel of the Portuguese Writers Association in 2008. She is a prolific short story writer, publishing regularly in literary journals, blogs, and anthologies, with two collections of short narratives — Histórias vindas a Conto (2011), and Franceses, Marinheiros e Republicanos... (2014). She currently lives in Sintra, Portugal.
